Sick and Crummy

That's how I've felt since Saturday night. It really kicked in yesterday. I did not make it to work today. I didn't get much sleep last night. I kept feeling like I was choking on drainage and could not breath (Too much Info, sorry!) Needless to say I slept until 11:15. I stayed up for about 2 hours then went back to nap land. Charlie and I did ride to Panera Bread to grab soup for lunch. While we were awake we watched a show called "Raising Sextuplets" on WE channel. It was very interesting. Those parents are much more upbeat than those crazy Gosselin's.

I found out today that Charlie did not make al.com's stupid top ten for Bama's Best Dog. I beg to differ with their top ten. I know (especially after a down and out day like today) that I have Bama's Best Dog (even if it's just in my mind) because he's the best snuggle pup in the land. He deserves a lot more praise than I give him. I think the whole family is now smitten with our pooch (Thomas's included).

Here's a tribute (In Pictures) to my Vote for Bama's Best Dog: Charlie Pete Thomas

Well I'm off to dose up on sinus medicine, lounge around, and get in bed early. Going to try to make it to the office by 7am tomorrow to make up for some of the time I lost being out today.

Home Projects

Saturday didn't go exactly as Brent planned. His agenda included: going to the furniture store to buy and pick up the new chair, going by Lowe's to buy 2 new doors and install them in the same day. Sounded good on paper but ended up being impossible. The chair was out of stock. It should be in later this week so another trip to Calera it is. The first door (the back door) did not fit the frame. He and his dad ended up knocking the entire frame out of the wall. I came home from shopping and we had a huge hole in our house. 6 hours later they were able to install a new frame and door. Now all we have to do is sand the sheetrock and touch up the paint. Needless to say door #2 (a new glass storm door for the front) is still in the box in the garage. Hopefully it will be up soon. I am so thankful Brent has his dad to help with those projects. It's best for me to be out the house while they are working. I get to wound up seeing the "work-in-progress". I'm definitely a "show me the results" kind of person. Oh well, I need to learn to be more patient. Sometime in the last 24 hours I caught the bug that Brent had last week. I slept all day after we got home from the nursing home. I know a sick person shouldn't go but I really wanted to visit Brent's grandmother. I promise I did not breath on anyone. I'll probably be an insomniac tonight. I hope I feel good enough to go to work tomorrow. Hopefully day 2 of my Z pack and a dose of Robitussin will do the trick.

Fabulous Saturday Morning

Well it's beautiful outside. So much that I woke up at 8:50am with no alarm clock! This is a big deal. I tend to hibernate and sleep until 10:30 when we do not have morning plans. Charlie & I even drove to McDonald's to get a Gravy n' biscuit. Brent is in Calera picking up our new leather chair. I am so excited! Our living room has been lacking a chair since Christmas. He moved his chair upstairs to the office due to our Christmas tree and refused to put it back downstairs. He said he wanted a new chair so 3 months later here it is. I will post pictures of Charlie sitting in it later on. I'm sure he will love it like he did the old chair.

I gave Charlie a bath this morning. He didn't fight me at all. This is unusual--normally Brent gives him baths but he was so stinky I had to take matters into my own hands. We survived.. eye boogers and all.

My grandmother is on her way to my house right now. I'm so excited! This was unexpected.. but when Brent dissed me for the day (he's also going to Lowe's to buy a new back door & glass front door with his dad) I decided to see if she'd like to spend the day with me. We are going to run a few errands. She is bringing my two pictures from the framing shop. I can't wait to see them (will post pics of those as well).

My neighbor is having a yard sale and she has had TONS of traffic. Maybe I need to drag all our junk on the front yard soon and have a town house garage sale like she did. I had no idea how many people would show up- it's been astonishing. I opened the bedroom windows so Charlie could watch all the excitement. He hasn't moved in the last 2 hours. He's just sitting there watching everyone drive up, buy junk & leave.

That's all for now, hope everyone has a great Saturday!!

Weekend Recap

Friday: work, dinner at home, basketball..basketball..basketball.
Saturday: gym, Target, basketball..basketball..basketball, lingerie shower for Moriah
Sunday: Church, lunch at Newk's, Whole Foods, Costco, nap, visit with Brent's parents, Wal-Mart, tv!

Now it's Sunday night and I can't help but think life would be better if every weekend was a 3 day one. [no this was not a 3 day weekend for me I just can't get them out of my head] When's the next one of those, Memorial Day? That's too far away to even think about. Overall it was a good weekend though. I enjoyed getting to meet Moriah's friends and learn more about her and Michael (Brent's younger brother) at her shower. Their wedding is two weeks away so the blog will get a major photograph upload soon. Charlie's doing good. He had fun visiting with his Meemee and Brent's dad. (I'm not sure what he will be called once the first grandchild is born. Guess that one's on you Jenn & Moriah! hint hint)

Basketball: My bracket is SHOT. Seriously, I'm not sure if I've ever did so bad in a bracket challenge. Brent has a chance to win the entire pot though. Start pulling for Syracuse because apparently he chose them to win it all. I picked Kansas, see how well that went. I'll keep you guys updated. We never win the bracket pickem challenges. This pot would be around $180 if everyone who entered would actually pay up ($10 per bracket). I'm not a gambler but I do love a good bracket contest (or football pick em's for that matter). But I do love the NCAA tournament. It's amazing that you can be the best team in the land all season long and come away loosing in the second round. You have to love the underdogs!

Tomorrow starts week 5 of Couch to 5k. Say a little prayer that I don't kill over on the treadmill. Here's the workout:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)

Well I hope everyone has a great Monday. It's orientation week at the hospital so I better hit the sack early. Those 7am work days really hit me hard. Night!

"Bama's Best Dog"

Charlie is officially in the contest. Does this mean I may grow up to be one of those parents who constantly show their children off? Maybe...

Let's hope Charlie Pete Thomas makes it into the Top Ten! (click the link to view his photo on al.com)

(Dad & Lori: You MUST enter the photo of Brodie driving the truck. I tried but the quality was off since I saved it from your blog. It's really easy, just log on to al.com and find "Bama's Best Dog" and follow the directions. )

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today's St. Patrick's day.. nothing major going on to celebrate in the Thomas household. Brent and I did wear green today so no one would pinch us! We are going to the gym tonight then finishing off the leftovers from last nights spaghetti.

Has anyone ever used Safelight to repair a windshield? I just saw a commercial and am about to google them. I forked out $170 last fall for a new windshield. I've had my car for 5 years (this September) and the windshield was hit by a rock then the crack spread and I drove it like that for 3 of the 5 years ;( Just this past weekend another piece of rock came crashing in while Charlie & I were driving home from Hartselle. I've got to get it taken care of before it spreads. It's hard to see now, but I know it's there and I know what happened last time I ignored it.

I'm planning on entering a picture of Charlie on al.com. They are having a "Cutest Dog" contest. I don't know which picture to enter! I'm going to make this my homework for tonight. I will update you all on which photograph I upload.

One more thing- Hartselle has a sink hole! It's actually on the stretch of interstate that runs parallel to the road I take to turn on my family's road. I don't know how severe it is, just know that it's causing major traffic delays. But hey, anytime little old Hartselle makes the news it's a big deal!

A sinkhole on Interstate 65 has traffic down to one lane in the northbound lane in Morgan County. The problem is between the Hartselle and Decatur-Priceville exits. Buddy Cox with the Alabama Department of Transportation says crews aren't just dealing with the sinkhole, they've also got a landslide about 100 feet up the road. Right now, the DOT says it's safe for drivers for to travel on the inside northbound lane, but they could end up having to shut down both northbound lanes for repair purposes. The DOT says they will give us a heads up if this happens.

Viewpoint

A quote caught my attention a few months ago but I never googled it or thought about pursuing it as a writing topic. I'm addicted to "US Weekly" and one day I saw the following quote by Kate Moss: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". This was located on the page filled with random quotes from Hollywood's most famous. I read it and thought "That's not my motto!". I instantly thought of ten things that I enjoy way better than fitting into those jeans (my first pair of 7's from sophomore year in college) that are neatly tucked in the back of my closet.
                               1. Dr. Pepper
                               2. Pizza from Mellow Mushroom
                               3. Spaghetti
                               4. Chicken & Shrimp combo from Kobe
                               5. Backdown Roll from Chuck's fish
                               6. Fried Mozzarella sticks
                               7. Velvetea Macaroni & Cheese
                               8. Filet from Ruth's Chris
                               9. #1 from Chick-fil-a
                              10. Bloomin' Onion from Outback

This quote stuck with me and I found myself referring to it at random times throughout the last few months. Thankfully, big girl here loves to eat and an eating disorder would be torture that I could Never put myself thru. But girls do it, seriously.. they turn themselves into wanna be pencil thin versions of their jr. high bodies. I can't stand it. Quotes like this make me so ill. I googled it, and guess what. Kate Moss has caught A LOT of heat for this. I'm not here to judge her --maybe she followed it up with a joke, maybe she laughed it off but she said it and that's enough to cause people to constantly question what they eat. She's a beautiful model that some girls out there probably want to be like. I just hope they don't let her motto become their own.

Okay, stepping off the soap box now. I hope you all have a fabulous Wednesday... just 3 more workdays until the  weekend rolls around!

Funny Website

So I've seen random ads on facebook declaring "What will your baby look like?". I never clicked these but got bored watching Celebrity Apprentice and decided to google for this type of site. The results are breathtaking.. let's just pray that one day when Brent and I decide to start a family that the little bundles of joy come out a tad bit cuter than this....

The little boy looks a bit like mini me from Austin Powers. Scary!

Here's a more realistic look of us as children.

I know the suspense is killing you but you'll have to keep waiting. We are not planning on starting a family any time soon. I can barely take care of my dog!

Is it Friday yet?

Wednesday came and went.. well almost. We still have to hit the gym and swing by Subway before watching one of our new favorite shows "Modern Family" before we can call it a night. I am looking forward to this weekend though. Looks like I may get to go to Hartselle! Brent has some plans and I think it's as good of time as ever for Charlie and I to sneak away and get a few things accomplished. I can't wait to go to the frame shop Saturday morning and pick out two frames. I need to have the 11x14 I purchased of Brent & I on our wedding day (the photo that was used in the newspaper announcement) framed and also our alphabet art "Thomas". For those of you who don't know what alphabet art is, check it out here. I purchased this last fall but only bought the photographs. In my head I imagined it would be so simply to find a pretty frame with 6 4x6 openings. WRONG! did not happen. It's okay though, I love beautiful pictures and this truly will be a piece we can use forever. I'll be sure to post pictures once I get them back and hang them in our home. I hope I am able to spend some quality time with the parents on Sunday. I'm thinking church and lunch.

On a side note, I have been researching Publix and I think I am really going to hit the coupon world hard. My grandmother Carol (The Livingston Family) shops Publix and she explained to me how the coupon situation works. Brent is still claims that he will never shop at Publix. I sure hope we can compromise.

Week 4 of couch to 5k is starting to kick it up a notch. It makes me run 1/2 mile two different times without stopping. I thought I would die but I didn't. I think I may have to look into purchasing running shoes. I googled "Is it okay to run in reebok easytones" and one of the answers I saw was "Yes, if you master walking in them first." Seriously? Master walking? They aren't giving me any trouble now running but I think as the distance increases they may. I feel like such a wuss writing about 1/2 of a mile being a challenge. It's just never been my cup of tea to push myself to run when I don't enjoy it. I'd much rather be active in some other form/ fashion but these days the old body needs a bit of tough love so running it is!

Well Brent just got home and said that if I don't stop wearing his under armour t-shirts to the gym he will stop taking me as his guest.. Whatever :) Like I believe that one!

Have a fantastic night.. and keep blogging! It seems like everyones been in a lull lately..no new entries to read on my dashboard. Let's do something about that!

Weekend in review..

We went to Costco today. We had our coupons and were going aisle to aisle filling our buggy with bulk items such as toilet paper, bounty, spaghetti sauce, etc. After spending 45 minutes in the store we passed a woman handing out raisins. As we strolled by her she said "You know those coupons aren't good until the 11th!" Really, the 11th? That's Thursday. We politely rolled our buggy to a separate end of the store and left. Are we that out of it? Apparently so. We didn't even bother to read our coupons. Brent swears he thought it said March 1st. I just assumed they were good to use because we got them in the mail early last week. Needless to say the Thomas family was pretty ticked with themselves when they left the store.

Brent did buy me the new Nicholas Sparks' book "The Last Song". I'll start reading it this week on my lunch break and fill you all in on how it is.

Back to the coupons-- At a bridal shower this weekend I got into a conversation about coupons. I always thought Publix (due to Brent's opinions) was the most expensive place to buy groceries. The lady told me that Publix doubles coupons up to $1.00. Is this true? Can anyone share any coupon knowledge with me? I'd love to cut our grocery bill down a few dollars each week. My current use of coupons is: Cutting them from the paper, filling them in envelopes labeled "Personal", "Food" & "Cleaning". I then take them to Wal-Mart with me and voila... approximately $1.00 in savings. I'd really like to up this! Any information will be much appreciated.

I'm off to watch the Oscars...and actually cheer for Avatar. Who'd a thought that?? I really liked that movie though so go Blue people!

Lack of Interest

Nothing exciting has been going on here lately. Just a full week of work and not enough sleep. Tonight has been a down night for me & Charlie. Brent went to meet up with Jay & Zeb (lifelong friends, they were in the wedding). We treated ourselves to Chicken Fried Rice and watched 4 episodes of our favorite shows (The Office & Mercy). Now we are almost caught up on all the shows we waste our days watching..oh well, it's a guilty pleasure.

Still on week 3 of the couch to 5k. Tomorrow will be the last workout of week 3. I have dreaded the gym all week. I've had zero energy. Why didn't anyone mention that you start to fall apart at age 25? Brent's set an early Saturday morning gym wakeup call- 8am. Ouch!

Charlie did get to go on a walk today. As soon as we hit the pavement he started running to a random yard to poop. This is very embarrassing and he does it almost every time we walk. Instead of having to be poop patrol I made him run to the end of the street. My socks slipped down in my shoes while we were running. I ABSOLUTELY hate when socks do that. I kept trying to fix them while running and this caused my foot to start cramping up. We looked hideous. Thankfully we made it. He pooped in a proper pooping zone. I'm so ready for Spring so I can take him out walking more. The vet kind of gave me a wake up call when he said "Looks Like he's gained some lbs since last time..." My little 21 pound Lhasa.. he's a fatty. We will walk off all those Memaw biscuits in no time!

Hope everyone has a good weekend... and I hope I find some blog inspiration soon. I enjoy writing but haven't had anything that I felt was blog worthy- I'll work on that :)
